the original octopus
this is where it started.
the blue octopus headpiece was the first creature chelle bee made that announced what her work was going to be. not costume. not accessories. something else entirely — a living form built from rhinestones and intention, designed to be worn on a body and seen in the world.
octopuses have eight arms, have nine brains (one in each arm). and they navigate by feel, by intelligence, by instinct. there was no pattern for this piece. no blueprint. just the same impulse that drives the creature it depicts: reach outward, find the shape, trust what the materials tell you.
intuitive organic placement — no grid, no pre-drawn plan, every stone a decision — is the only method that could have made this piece. it was built the same way it was conceived: from the center outward, until it was done.
the blue octopus went to Aruba. it went to Patricia Field where it was pulled for KALTBLUT Magazine. it has been in the world for years and it is still here, still available, still waiting for the right person.
one of one. as it should be.
